I’m standing at the door of this huge Best Trade Bid auditorium full of professional people from all over Australia, This group of business people have a wonderful knowledge of their trade, and as they came to join the fantastic group of suppliers inside, they told me at the door their contact details, what their service is, and the regions they service, and have said to me, if any one wants us to help someone looking for the type of service we offer, we’re well prepared to get in contact with them, and discuss the job they want done, give them a quote and do their job.
You come up to the door of the Best Trade Bid auditorium where I’m standing, and you have a look through the glass door panel and see it’s full of people all busily talking amongst themselves.
I say to you.
“If you’d like me to find someone for you, I can, but there are three important things I need to know to find the right person in the crowd.
- Your contact details
- The trade or service you require
- The region in which you require the service
Can you tell me briefly what you want done?” so you give me the details
I say.
“If you want, you can continue doing what you have to get done, I’ll have the appropriate businesses people contact you to discuss the job.”
So you get back to the list of other important things you have to get done for the day.
I go inside to the stage and get the attention of the audience and say,
“I Have Joyce waiting to talk to someone who can organize all the details of her wedding. She is in the East Brisbane region. Who can help?”
Five people put their hand up, so I give them a printed copy of your brief job description just as you told me.
Two of them had a look at the details, one said I don’t want the job, and the other said I don’t want to compete, I’m too busy, so they went back to what they were doing not knowing the potential sale they have just passed up.
The interested business owners that were left were quite excited for the opportunity to tell you all about their business, and present to you what they could offer, they gave me $10 for the opportunity to meet with you, so I then give them your contact details as well.
My job is then finished. You deal directly with these business people as they contact you for appointments.
After consultation with them, you discover they all have great offers. One of them has just started business, but has had a lot of experience and is offering a fantastic deal. Another has been around for a long time and has beautiful photos of previous jobs that have been done. The other business is a surprise packet, it somehow has the Wow! factor you were looking for and is the clear winner in your mind.
Everyone is happy. Each of the business owners goes on with the knowledge that even if they didn’t get the job this time, the small fee was well worth the communication with you, the experience gained, lessons learned, and the potential for future sales and special offers would remain with them for a lifetime, and one of them now had to prove their worth. You are happy too because you found the right business for you.

Sure you could use the traditional, phone a friend, or search the news paper ads, or look up a phone book and contact one by one those who can afford to be in it and maybe, eventually you’d find someone to satisfy the criteria for the job. How time consuming, and what an effort?
